Scott Mendelsberg

Executive Director -- Colorado GEAR UP

Scott Mendelsberg has more than 20 years of experience in education as a teacher, coach, program director, high school principal and director of federal programs. He currently serves as the Executive Director of Colorado GEAR UP. Scott has a proven track record in improving student achievement and student growth and increasing access to and success in postsecondary education. He has spearheaded state legislation based on the success of his programs. Scott is familiar with best practices for high-needs students; he applies current research and state and federal policies regarding an academically rigorous high school curriculum to develop systems that increase student success.

Scott sees StrengthsQuest as a tool that can be used by students and educators in the K-12 pipeline. He believes that the earlier that students become aware of their strengths and learning style, the better their opportunity for success. Scott also believes that SrengthsQuest can help teachers and counselors better know and understand their students. In many schools throughout the U.S., teacher-to-student and counselor-to-student ratios are extremely high; many teachers have up to 150 students per day, andcounselors can have caseloads of 400 or more students. StrengthsQuest can be significant in addressing this reality.

Scott received his bachelor's degree in history and education from the University of Northern Colorado and his master's degree in school administration from the University of Phoenix. He is a doctorate candidate in public affairs at the University of Colorado Denver. His Signature Themes are Strategic, Achiever, Competition, Activator, and Relator.
